“It’s time to resolve this. Illinois and Chicago need the money an expansion of gambling could bring, and they need that money to start flowing as quickly as possible.
Both Chicago and Illinois have been slashing services, laying off employees and contemplating pension cuts. This bill would give the city a casino, as well as give casinos to four other communities around the state and give racetracks to slot machines at racetracks. That’s more gambling expansion than would be ideal, but it was the only way to round up enough votes to pass the bill. Chicagoans already gamble, but they’re doing it in places where the city doesn’t get the revenue.
Enough already. Quinn and the state’s casino advocates really have to work this one out.”
