“Sadly, Fairmount Park is in danger. The problem is casinos.
“There was a time when the track had a lock on all the legal gambling revenue in our area. Then came the Alton Belle. Then the Casino Queen. Then Missouri wanted its share, and voters decided to allow cute little paddle-wheelers to cruise the rivers.
“Actually, the politics gets very confusing. The bill would also allow a casino in Chicago, and that’s popular with Cook County Democrats. That should make Gov Pat Quinn’s decision easy, but he has insisted that he opposes the expansion of gambling for moral reasons.
“He should spend more time at the track.”
